Can I use a Philips Avent breast pump after a C-section?

Published on 2019-11-17

If you have had a caesarean section, you might wonder if you can still express with a Philips Avent breast pump. Find out how it works.

It may take a bit longer

Even after a caesarean section, it is possible to breastfeed and express successfully. It may, however, take a bit longer for you and your baby to begin breastfeeding, and your milk might come in a bit later following the caesarean section.

Sit up straight

You do not have to lean forward with a Philips Avent breast pump. If you wish to express milk, the Philips Avent range of Comfort breast pumps have the benefit of not having to lean forward when expressing. You can sit up straight in a comfortable, natural position. Ask your midwife, GP, lactation specialist or breastfeeding advisor for support in starting to breastfeed, to make it as comfortable as possible for you and your baby after the operation.

Ask for help

If you have any questions on the best position, consult your midwife, GP, lactation specialist or breastfeeding advisor for advice on the most comfortable position.
