Silk is a stunning fabric that looks great on, especially when there’s a party to be enjoyed. Silk looks so good, it makes the extra effort a little bit more worthwhile. Whilst it can be a delicate and luxurious natural fabric, the downside is It can easily tear or stain. Although many garment labels recommend you dry clean, you can wash, dry, steam and press silk at home using your own gentle methods. Preparing your delicates with care

#1 Wash carefully

First things first. You’ve made your selection for what you want to wear. Now it’s time to ensure your silk garment is looking its very best. If you’re uncertain whether your silk can withstand the washing machine, you can always give it a gentle hand wash. Simply add a few drops of detergent to your container, and then gently rub the fabric together to remove the marks. Then change over to more lukewarm water and  rinse the soap away until all of the bubbles are gone. By squeezing the silk gently together, you’ll release the excess water. Just make sure you don’t wring it dry, as this may damage your delicate material.

#2 Don’t iron it, steam it!

In drying out the silk, you should turn your garment inside out and hang it carefully to dry. By hand-smoothing out the creases while it’s still wet can save a lot of the work needed later on. In most cases with your delicates, try to avoid using an iron; knowing whether your favorite piece can withstand the extreme heat can be risky.
