Why is the iron-ready light of my Philips Steam Generator Iron 9000 Series blinking?

Published on 16 July 2025

Find out why the iron-ready light of your Philips Steam Generator Iron PerfectCare 9000 Series is blinking blue/white in the article below.

The information below applies only to the models: PerfectCare 9000 series (PSG90xx).

The "iron-ready light" automatically turns blue or white to indicate the iron's temperature/steam state based on the fabric you are ironing.

The "iron-ready light" automatically turns blue to indicate that the iron is in the optimal state for certain fabrics, such as silk and polyester, as shown on the left side of the image below.

When the "iron-ready light" turns white, as shown on the right side of the image below, the iron provides higher temperature/steam for other types of fabrics, such as cotton, linen and denim.

Note: Both states, blue light/white light, indicate that the ActiveSense technology is working and it is normal.

Iron-ready light

For irons with the Auto Shut Off (ASO) feature, the "iron-ready light" will start blinking when:

  • The iron remains stationary horizontally on its soleplate for a specific period. For irons with temperature dial: 30 seconds. For Optimal Temp irons: 2 minutes.
  • Standing stationary vertically on its heel rest for 8 minutes (for all models).

While in ASO state, the iron will stop heating up and start to cool down.
When the iron is moved or put in motion, the "iron-ready light" will start to breathe or remain steady ON (model dependent), indicating it is heating up again.
Once the iron-ready light stops blinking and remains steady ON/turns OFF (model dependent), the soleplate is heated and the iron is ready to be used.

If your iron has a dedicated Auto Shut Off light, the "iron-ready light" will not be lit when the iron enters the ASO state. The above lighting behaviour still applies.
