The fact that you can’t see your own beard neckline is no reason to ignore it. You can probably get away with not maintaining your neckline when you’re just sporting stubble. But once it goes beyond 3mm and starts turning into a proper beard, it’s time to start grooming.
A well-defined and well-maintained beard neckline makes almost any style look better and tidier. Here’s how to trim a beard neckline and show the world you mean business.
Look straight in the mirror, holding your head upright. Any hair you can see below your chin from this angle definitely has to go. Now.
Tilt your head back a bit and place a finger just at the top of your Adam’s apple. This spot marks a natural dividing line between your beard and your neck.
Place your trimmer at this spot and move downwards. Continue on one side, working outwards from the middle, ensuring you stay under the jawline. Return to the middle, and work outwards on the other side. Don’t make your beard neckline too round. A slight upward curve is best.

Define the corners of your beard by trimming a vertical line below your earlobes to connect with the horizontal line below your chin. You can leave this as a chiseled, angular corner, or gently round it off to make less of a macho statement.
Like it? If you’re happy with your trim, follow up with a clean neck shave to make your beard neckline something your collar will feel proud to be seen with.
And that’s how to shape a beard neckline. Good luck!
