GB/T 18801-2015 is the updated national standard for air cleaners in China. It was released on 15 September 2015 by China National Standardization Committee and came into on 1 March 2016. In this update, new air cleaner testing protocols and concept are prescribed, including CCM (cumulated cleaning mass, filter capacity indicating lifetime), formaldehyde (and other gas pollutants) CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate), etc. This standard guides the market by educating consumers that a good purifier consists of factors including "high CADR, high CCM, high energy efficiency and low noise”.
 

This standard acts as the guideline for air cleaner performance design in China for all air cleaner manufacturers – and regulates the market in a role of market threshold. For example, one of the biggest e-channels in China (JD.com) announced to all manufacturers that products not complying with the new GB/T18801 may not be sold on their channel as of 1 January 2016, even before the official effective day of the standard.
 

This standard has been introduced into IEC and ISO for the possibility of global expansion.
