disappointedMy Review on Philips Shaver S5420/04
As can be seen from my rating on the above product I have only been able to give it a 1 star rating.
Reason :- Disappointed and disillusioned with the product.
Purchased as a replacement for Philips shaver Type HQ7360 / B that I bought in May 2010, which unfortunately with battery deterioration and a broken blade guard spline needed replacing.
A great shaver with very close shaving and for years a good battery capacity. It just got old.
Prior to that I had a Philishave Type HQ 686 / B, also a good shaver but the battery ran out and I could not source new battery. I reckon if I could get a battery for it, it would still be a good performer.
I have got used to good shavers from Philips until the recent purchase of the S5420/04.
The closeness of the shave is minimal at best. Stroking my face after a shave it feels as if I still need a shave. Circular motions have been used and I am accustomed to that from my previous model. It appears the cutting blades are so well protected that they can’t get close enough to the skin to cut closely.
BATTERY. After initial charge of the battery I got 3 shaves from one charge just as the battery low light came on. That was satisfactory to me as I shave every 2 days, occasionally daily, and also shave my head at the same time.
I noticed that the length of time I could get for a shave was deteriorating slowly and recently I only got one shave from a charged battery.
The above events prompted me to check, by stopwatch, how long each shave was taking me.
May 16th, fully charged battery, shave completed and low battery light “ON” = 14 minutes 38 seconds. To recharge battery 29 minutes.
May 18th, fully charged battery, shave completed, no lights, 15 minutes 59 seconds.
May 20th, using remaining charge from previous shave, low battery light ‘ON’ after 4 minutes 24 seconds, continue until shaver stop. Total shave time 6 minutes 36 seconds for the day.
May 20th full charge of battery and turn shaver on with “no load” until shaver stopped. Discharge time to low light 53:28
To stop 56:14
With a 1 shave time of between 15 -20 minutes and a flat battery where is all the power going??
I don’t know if all this makes sense to you but it leaves me with a sour taste in my mouth. 45 minutes shaving time? No way!!
If you wish I am quite happy to do a re-assessment in a month or two.

That was a close shaveHaving had this make of shaver for many years I thought it was time for an upgrade. Having looked at different models and different competitors I settled on this one. When I opened the box and took it out I new I had chosen the right one. The design of this shaver is extremely good. It looks modern and sturdy. I must admit I have only ever had a dry electric shaver. As this one is usable both dry and wet ( and can be used within the shower) I tried the wet shave first time. Wow how good is that I now realise what I have been missing. The shave is so close and smooth. There was no nicks or micro cuts and the glide of the shaver over the skin is brilliant. Once finished the shaver displays a tap to remind you to rinse it (should you need reminding). It is a one hand click and flick operation to open the shaver and rinse under the tap. Then leave it to dry ready for next time. The dry shave is very good as well giving a close smooth shave with no nicks or micro cuts. Charging the shave is a doddle just plug it in and wait about one hour and it is done. My last shaver I had to charge overnight as it took so long. this shows how old my last shaver was and I think this one will last as long. Standard maintenance is to keep the heads clean with rinsing the shaver. I have used the shaver cleaner and oil spray once a week and I must admit it feels like a new shaver every time.

Aquatouch S5420/06 Men's RazorI have been using Philips electric razors continuously for 57 years, from the early twin-head mains only days! They have always been very reliable. Very light with a long duration on one charge, their rechargeable ranges have been great to take backpacking/wild camping as well as for weekends away.
This latest model is very light and has a short charge time, making it the best yet. It can be rinsed clean too. Great cut.

A very poor and painful shave.I write this review 20 mins after my latest shave with this razor...... and my face is still on fire.
I am so under whelmed by this razor in so many ways.
But first the good points.
1) it's quiet
2) it's light
3) it's easy to clean
4) it fits well in the hand
Now the bad points which are where it matters
1) does not cut close, even after multiple passes
2) even when fully charged the blades sound slow and labouring. It like it has no zip, no get up and go.
3) to even get an average shave you have to go over your face over and over again which makes it very sore. Hence my face on fire
4) on 2-3 day beard it's so painful it may as well be an epilator
In summary:- A very poor and painful shave, especially considering that Philips is meant to be a premium brand.

TerribleI bought this product to replace an existing shaver I had used for many years as it was becoming a little worn & replacement heads are not cheap. I checked reviews and it looked good.
How wrong can you be !!!! Within a month the performance was dropping off. Now after less than three months & despite rinsing etc all as instructed , using it as a dry shaver is a complete waste of time . A blunt butter knife would do more. Using it as a wet shaver is only marginally better .
Currently I am using wet razors which I hate otherwise I go out looking like I have just got out of bed !!

Does what it says on the boxI have used Philips shavers for more years than I can remember. Although I could still use my previous razor, a Phillieshave 925 when it was plugged into the mains supply, it would not hold a charge and I was told that batteries were no longer available for this model. If I could have replaced the battery I would not have purchased a new one as I still got a good shave from it.
Having researched a number of shavers on the internet I selected 5420/06. While I am still getting used to it being a different shape and action from my previous model it is giving me a satisfactory result. I have not used it in the shower or wet shaved with it yet. I find I get a good enough shave without using soap and water.
I hope that the Aquatouch performs and lasts as long as my previous Philips shaver.
