Blu Ray Player wont power on

About 2 years after purchase, the player wont power on. Took it to Phillips service centre who advised that either power card has to be replaced or the mother board to be replaced. Charges for power card $60+Labour $40, Total $100 + GST Charges for mother board $120+Labour $40, Total $160+ GST When purchase price was about $199, is there any sense repairing? Are these players meant to last or require disposal every year or so? If they are to be repaired, then repair costs must make sense! Who will arrange for disposal on units that don't work??
