Philips Lumify – an ultrasound system in a transducer, now available in Malaysia

App-based ultrasound solution for compatible mobile devices designed to make ultrasound more accessible at the point-of-care

Kuala Lumpur – Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA) recently announced that Lumify, an ultrasound solution compatible with Android devices, is now available in Malaysia. Philips’ ultrasound digital health approach helps healthcare providers improve patient care and reduce costs with Lumify – by connecting compatible smart devices, a mobile application, advanced ultrasound transducer technology, and integrated IT and support services.

Lumify is the first Philips ultrasound device for pre-hospital use and supports clinical applications including cardiac, abdominal including lung, OB/GYN, superficial, vascular, soft tissue, MSK, gallbladder and FAST exam pre-sets.

Ali added that introducing technology that improves healthcare accessibility for all Malaysians is in line with the Ministry of Health Malaysia’s goals¹. “The Ministry of Health Malaysia targets to expand healthcare capabilities in the rural areas and to reach more Malaysians living in remote communities, through increasing the deployment as well as the capabilities of mobile clinic and mobile healthcare teams. By 2020, it is estimated that mobile clinics will be able to serve 39% of Malaysians. As the Ministry of Health is embracing the adoption and integration of mobile and digital technology in healthcare, Lumify is a suitable tool that enables more rural patients to have access to ultrasound examinations. The app also enables easy sharing of scan results for remote medical consultation. In addition, the Ministry of Health is looking to improve the capabilities of emergency services and pre-hospital care in the field, which is a need that Lumify is also well suited to fulfil.”

To use Lumify, users should download The Lumify App from the Google Play store, connect their Philips transducer to their compatible smart device and launch the app to begin scanning. The Lumify App and all three transducers (L12-4, C5-2, and S4-1) are backed by a 5-year warranty, each having gone through rigorous environmental and durability testing for reliability for any clinical setting. The S4-1 transducer and cable weighs 152 grams and is smaller than a smartphone, adding to its versatility and mobility. Beyond integrating with everyday technology, Lumify also uses cloud-enabled technology to connect with PACS, shared networks and system directories.
