Let Your Mouth Mirror Your Good Health

Philips Sonicare, as a Global Partner of World Oral Health Day, is raising awareness of the importance of good oral health from an early age

Petaling Jaya, Malaysia – Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA) The importance of health has been widely discussed and with each year that passes, we make resolutions to take better care of our health in general, be it through healthier diets or increased physical activity. However, has it ever crossed your mind that having a healthy mouth should also be an essential part (if not the most) of your overall healthcare routine since it is, after all, the gateway of food and nutrients for your body?

This World Oral Health Day, Philips Sonicare, as a Global Partner of the FDI World Dental Federation and the official power toothbrush sponsor of World Oral Health Day 2018, wants you to remember that your mouth is the mirror of your body with its ‘SayAhh: Think Mouth, Think Health’ campaign.

We want people to be more aware that good oral hygiene starts at an early age. We know brushing habits and lifestyle choices such as smoking can affect not only the health of their mouth, teeth and gums, but also overall health. And while drinking sugary drinks, sweets and fresh juices might seem harmless in the short term, over many years it can lead to plaque build-up and tooth decay, along with more serious health problems

Muhammad Ali Jaleel

Country Manager for Philips Malaysia

This campaign aims to promote an early start to good oral health by nipping bad habits in the bud with best practices. Developing an understanding of how to look after your mouth, teeth and gums from a young age is important, however, a third of parents globally find it difficult to get their children to clean their teeth regularly1. With 60–90% of schoolchildren and almost all adults suffering from tooth decay worldwide2, it’s more important than ever to instil good brushing routines early on and understand how lifestyle choices can have a detrimental impact.

“The scenario in Malaysia is similar, with 70% of teenagers aged 15-19 having dental caries while more than 90% of adults from their mid-20s to old age have dental caries3. Thus, it is important to instil strong dental health practices in children so the health of their teeth will not deteriorate when they get older, so often is the case,” added Mr Muhammad Ali.

At the heart of its partnership with the FDI World Dental Federation, Philips Sonicare aims to help bring top of mind recall for the information people should know about their oral health, through an infographic on the “Top Ten Facts on Oral Health”. This is to help people easily use the information to make better choices and build healthier habits for long-term health and wellness.

“The condition of one’s mouth is reflective of what goes on inside their body. Health of the mouth and body should not be regarded as two separate entities with different levels of care, rather, it is a two-way relationship and both shouldn’t be taken lightly in ensuring one’s general good health,” concluded Mr Muhammad Ali.
